What does multi colored mean in the Great Gatsby?

I have to present what multi colored means in the Great Gatsby. Under the category of multi colored includes the terms opal, primary colors, and plaid. I can't seem to figure out what i stands for or what Fitzgerald meant by it...thanks for the help
