I need help. I want to be an information security specialist or a tester?

I've been into programming lately and I like it. I want to learn more about information security though. I'm thinking about certificate programs... How do I know which ones are good and stuff? This is hard for me. I'm all new to this. I never looked into colleges or scholarships or anything while I was in high school because I just umed I wouldn't go.
