Is there a line between friendly and flirty?

It's hard to say since he's a little bit different from the sounds of it. He may not be a typical guy who would just ask you out right away. I would keep talking to him and maybe say something flirty or compliment him and see what he says. Does he compliment you? If so, that's a good sign of attraction and not just friendship.
